ما هو MEV and how does Jito capture it on Solana؟
Maximum extractable value (MEV) refers to profit that can be extracted by reordering, inserting, or censoring transactions within a block. On Solana, Jito operates a custom validator client with a block engine that accepts MEV bundles من searchers (automated bots that find arbitrage, liquidation, وsandwich opportunities). Searchers pay tips to have their bundles prioritized. Jito collects these tips وdistributes a portion to jitoSOL stakers, effectively letting passive stakers share in MEV revenue that would otherwise accrue entirely to validators وsearchers.

Standard Solana staking involves locking SOL with a validator وreceiving staking rewards as new SOL emissions. jitoSOL is a liquid staking token representing staked SOL in Jito's pool. It accrues both standard staking yield وMEV tip revenue, so its exchange rate against SOL increases over time faster than non-MEV liquid staking tokens. jitoSOL can be used as collateral in DeFi protocols while the underlying SOL continues earning staking وMEV rewards.
How was the JTO token distributed؟
JTO launched via airdrop in December 2023 to early jitoSOL holders, Jito network participants, وcontributors. The airdrop was one of the largest in Solana's history by value at the time of distribution وattracted significant attention to both the token وthe Jito protocol. The distribution rewarded users who had staked SOL through Jito before the governance token existed, creating a retroactive incentive for early ecosystem participation.
