OmiseGO launched in 2017 as one of the most prominent early Ethereum scaling projects, backed by significant venture funding and an ICO that raised tens of millions of dollars. The project used the Plasma framework to batch Ethereum transactions off-chain and settle them on-chain, with an ambitious vision of providing financial access to unbanked populations in Southeast Asia.
