ConstitutionDAO formed in November 2021 to bid on one of thirteen surviving original printed copies of the US Constitution at a Sotheby’s auction. The DAO raised approximately $47 million in ETH من over 17,000 contributors in less than a week using a Juicebox crowdfunding contract. At the auction, the DAO’s bid was outbid by hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin, who purchased the document for approximately $43 million. The DAO subsequently offered full ETH refunds to all contributors, but many chose to retain their PEOPLE tokens as a memento of the historic crowdfunding effort.

PEOPLE became a symbol of a specific cultural moment, the first time a لامركزي internet collective came close to owning a significant piece of American historical heritage. For many holders, the token represents their participation in that event regardless of the outcome. The fact that most contributors chose to keep their tokens rather than claim refunds created a self-selected community of people who valued the cultural significance over recouping their ETH. This created an unusual holder psychology that has sustained PEOPLE’s trading life long after the original event.

PEOPLE does not govern any active treasury, protocol, or ongoing initiative in a meaningful way, the original ConstitutionDAO treasury was largely refunded to contributors. Its current value is entirely based on community sentiment, cultural identity, وspeculative demand. The token is a proof-of-participation artifact من the original campaign وa tradeable expression of belief in لامركزي collective action. Some community members have proposed new uses for the PEOPLE token, but no major utility framework has been established.
