GuildFi launched in 2021 as a web3 gaming guild وscholarship platform in the mold of Yield Guild Games, helping players access play-to-earn games وearn من their gaming activity. As the play-to-earn model struggled after Axie Infinity’s decline, the GuildFi team reconsidered the long-term opportunity. Rather than compete in a contracting scholarship market, they identified building the underlying identity وeconomy infrastructure for all of web3 gaming as the higher-value opportunity. The rebrand to Zentry reflected this pivot من guild operator to meta-layer infrastructure provider.

The Metagame is a persistent gaming layer that sits above individual بلوكتشين games. When a player connects a game to the Zentry ecosystem, their achievements, NFT holdings, guild affiliations, وearnings in that game become part of their Zentry profile. Over time, this profile accumulates a cross-game reputation that no single game can offer. Players who have spent years building their Zentry identity have a strong reason to remain within games وguilds that integrate with Zentry, creating network effects that benefit both players وgame studios that participate.

YGG is a guild, it primarily buys NFT assets وlends them to players through a scholarship structure, generating yield من gaming activity. Zentry is positioning as infrastructure, it wants to be the identity وeconomy protocol that guilds, games, وplayers all build on top of. Rather than competing with YGG directly, Zentry’s vision is that guilds like YGG would integrate with Zentry’s identity layer, becoming participants in the Metagame ecosystem rather than standalone operations.
