About Golem (GLM/USD)

Golem launched its original GNT token in 2016 and migrated to the GLM token in 2021 as part of the Yagna network upgrade. The protocol allows requestors to submit computational tasks, from rendering CGI images to machine learning inference to scientific simulations, which are distributed across a network of providers running the Yagna software on their computers. Providers earn GLM for contributing their CPU and GPU resources. Unlike cloud computing services from AWS or Google, Golem operates without a central authority, with task verification handled through cryptographic proofs and reputation systems. The Yagna network improved the earlier system's architecture for better task routing and payment channels. GLM/USD on StoicFX is a CFD, no GLM tokens are purchased or held on your behalf.

Key Price Drivers

  • Requestor task volume, provider count, and network utilization as primary activity metrics
  • AI and GPU computing demand narrative benefiting decentralized compute alternatives
  • GPU provider growth and hardware quality determining ability to fulfill high-performance workloads
  • Competition from Akash Network, Render, Flux, and newer decentralized compute projects

Peak Trading Hours

Smaller-cap altcoin CFDs trade around the clock on StoicFX MT5. Volume follows broad crypto market patterns and peaks during US and European hours, though individual tokens may see activity spikes tied to project-specific catalysts.

US and European business hours (13:00-21:00 UTC)

Smaller-cap tokens can experience higher percentage moves than large-cap cryptos. Liquidity may be thinner during off-peak hours, and spreads can widen accordingly. Available on MT5 from Monday 00:00 to Friday 23:59 UTC.

FAQ

How does Golem verify that computing tasks are completed correctly?

Golem uses a combination of reputation-based provider scoring and task redundancy to handle verification. For tasks where correctness is deterministic, requestors can verify output directly. For tasks where verification is difficult, Golem uses a reputation system where providers with a track record of correct results are trusted more, and new providers build reputation over time. Some task types use redundant execution where multiple providers compute the same task and results are compared to detect incorrect outputs. The challenge of trustless verification for general computation remains an active area of development in decentralized computing.

What is the difference between the original GNT token and the current GLM token?

GNT was Golem's original ERC-20 token launched with the 2016 mainnet. When Golem released the Yagna network in 2020-2021, they introduced GLM as a new ERC-20 token with a 1:1 migration from GNT. The migration was designed to upgrade the token to a more modern standard while allowing all existing GNT holders to convert to GLM. GLM has the same total supply as GNT and was introduced alongside technical upgrades to the network's payment channel architecture.

What types of tasks can be submitted to the Golem network?

Golem supports containerized workloads through its virtual machine execution environment, meaning any computation that can be packaged as a Docker container can theoretically run on Golem. Common use cases include CGI rendering for 3D animation and film production, machine learning inference tasks, scientific and data processing computations, and WebAssembly-based applications. The Yagna network introduced improved task scheduling and better support for GPU workloads, expanding the range of high-performance computing tasks the network can handle.

If I trade GLM/USD on StoicFX, do I hold any GLM tokens?

No. GLM/USD on StoicFX is a Contract for Difference. You trade GLM's price against the US dollar without holding any tokens. To request computing tasks on the Golem network, provide computing resources as a provider, or hold GLM in a wallet, you would need actual GLM tokens in an Ethereum-compatible wallet with the Yagna software installed.
