About Raydium (RAY/USD)

Raydium launched in February 2021 as one of Solana’s earliest AMMs and rapidly became central to the Solana DeFi ecosystem. Its key architectural differentiator is integration with Serum (now OpenBook), Solana’s on-chain central limit order book, allowing Raydium’s liquidity pools to route trades through both the AMM mechanism and the order book, providing users access to the deepest available liquidity at any time. AcceleRaytor serves as Raydium’s initial DEX offering launchpad, allowing new Solana projects to distribute tokens to RAY stakers and liquidity providers, which drove significant staking demand during the 2021 Solana DeFi boom. RAY is used for governance, staking to access launchpad allocations, and fee capture from protocol revenue. RAY/USD on StoicFX is a CFD, no RAY tokens are purchased or held on your behalf.

Key Price Drivers

  • Solana DeFi TVL and trading volume, especially meme coin seasons
  • Meme coin launchpad activity and new token liquidity provision
  • AcceleRaytor launchpad projects requiring RAY staking for allocation
  • Competition from Orca and Jupiter for Solana DEX market share

FAQ

How does Raydium’s integration with OpenBook’s order book work?

Raydium’s liquidity pools are connected to OpenBook’s central limit order book, which is a fully on-chain order matching system on Solana. When a trade is routed through Raydium, the protocol checks both the AMM pool price and available orders on the OpenBook book for the same pair. If better pricing is available through the order book, liquidity is sourced from there instead of or in addition to the AMM pool. This hybrid routing means Raydium users access deeper effective liquidity than either an isolated AMM or order book alone could provide.

What is AcceleRaytor and how does it work for new projects?

AcceleRaytor is Raydium’s launchpad for new Solana token projects. Projects partner with Raydium to conduct their initial DEX offering, distributing a portion of their token supply to participants. To qualify for allocation in an AcceleRaytor launch, users must stake RAY tokens, the more RAY staked and the longer the staking period, the larger the potential allocation. After the launch, the new project’s token is listed directly on Raydium, where the raised liquidity is immediately deployed as an AMM pool for secondary trading.

How does Raydium’s concentrated liquidity compare to its standard pools?

Raydium offers both standard constant-product AMM pools and concentrated liquidity pools. In standard pools, liquidity is spread uniformly across all price ranges, capital is deployed at prices far from the current market where it is rarely used. Concentrated liquidity allows liquidity providers to specify a price range for their capital, making their funds active only within that range. When the market price stays within their chosen range, concentrated liquidity providers earn fees at a much higher rate per dollar of capital deployed, but they must manage their range actively as prices move.

If I trade RAY/USD on StoicFX, do I hold any RAY tokens?

No. RAY/USD on StoicFX is a Contract for Difference. You trade RAY’s price against the US dollar without holding any tokens. To stake RAY for AcceleRaytor allocations, provide liquidity in Raydium pools, or participate in governance, you would need actual RAY tokens in a Solana-compatible wallet.
