Trade ZK/USD
ZKsync / US Dollar
ZKsync is an Ethereum Layer 2 zk-rollup developed by Matter Labs that batches thousands of transactions into a single cryptographic validity proof verified on Ethereum, inheriting base layer security while reducing fees by orders of magnitude.

About ZKsync (ZK/USD)
ZKsync is developed by Matter Labs, one of the pioneering teams in applied zero-knowledge cryptography. ZKsync Era uses ZK-SNARKs to generate cryptographic proofs of batch execution correctness that can be verified on Ethereum in a single transaction, a fundamentally different security model from optimistic rollups like Arbitrum and Optimism, which assume transactions are valid unless challenged. ZK proof validity means withdrawals from ZKsync to Ethereum are faster than optimistic rollup withdrawals, which require a 7-day fraud challenge window. ZKsync launched its ZK token in June 2024 with a large airdrop to eligible wallets, distributed to early users of the network across ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite. ZKsync’s Elastic Chain architecture aims to allow multiple ZK chains to share proofs and liquidity under a unified security umbrella. ZK/USD on StoicFX is a CFD, no ZK tokens are purchased or held on your behalf.

FAQ
What is the difference between ZKsync and Starknet, both being ZK-rollups?
ZKsync Era uses ZK-SNARKs, succinct non-interactive arguments of knowledge, and is EVM-compatible, meaning most Ethereum smart contracts can deploy with minimal modifications. Starknet uses STARK proofs, which are larger but do not require a trusted setup and have different security assumptions. Starknet uses Cairo, its own programming language, requiring developers to rewrite contracts rather than port them. ZKsync’s EVM compatibility gave it an initial advantage in attracting existing Ethereum applications, while Starknet’s native Cairo ecosystem developed independently with different design patterns.
Why are ZK-rollup withdrawals faster than optimistic rollup withdrawals?
Optimistic rollups post transactions to Ethereum along with a commitment to their validity, then wait 7 days during which anyone can submit a fraud proof if the transactions were invalid. Assets cannot be withdrawn until this challenge window closes unless users pay liquidity providers to bridge early. ZK-rollups post mathematical proofs of validity alongside transactions, verified on Ethereum immediately. Because the proof mathematically guarantees correctness, no challenge window is needed and withdrawals can complete in hours rather than waiting a week.
What happened with the ZK airdrop controversy?
ZKsync’s ZK token airdrop in June 2024 was one of the largest in crypto history but received significant criticism. Many users who had actively used ZKsync Era received allocations they considered small relative to their activity, while some Sybil addresses, multiple wallets controlled by single entities to farm airdrops, reportedly received tokens despite filtering attempts. The airdrop also allocated a substantial portion to ecosystem partners and investors, which some community members felt was disproportionate. The controversy highlighted the ongoing challenge of designing airdrops that reward genuine users without being gamed.
If I trade ZK/USD on StoicFX, do I hold any ZK tokens?
No. ZK/USD on StoicFX is a Contract for Difference. You trade ZKsync’s ZK token price against the US dollar without owning any tokens. To pay gas fees on ZKsync Era, participate in governance, or use ZKsync applications, you would need actual ZK tokens bridged to the ZKsync Era network.
